Flightpath-Studios - Band Bio
Hello...and welcome to my little corner of the web....
My name is Robert Fowler, and Flightpath Studios is my "garage" based studio which has been home, for many years, to my original recording project entitled "Time and Tide". I have experimented in many styles: instrumental rock (I am a guitarist of many years}, hard rock and metal (with other vocalists-my voice is not a "metal" type voice}, progressive rock (my first love), and anything else that came out of my head.
I have many years on the cover-band scene here in Washington (USA), and have logged several 100's of hours in "real" stage time. My studio experience has not been limited to Flightpath, having done recordings with several of my projects (full bands).
I've played guitar for over 20 years, and have based my style on equal parts progressive rock, fusion jazz, instrumental rock, and melodic hard rock...other guitarist have said I have a very unique style: I would say that I am a twisted product of my influences (Alex Lifeson of Rush, Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson, Alan Holdsworth, Carlos Santana...to mention a few). My vocal influences are more vague: Big bands, musicals, all the covers I've sang over the years (from classic rock to modern top 40 rock)
I also play bass (although I would not say I'm a "bass player" :), program drums (samples and loops), and engineer my own recordings.
My guitar rig is deceptively simple: a midi controlled rack into a 120 watt per side power amp: to an old prototype 5150 4x12 cab.
Guitars are as follows: "Mexi" Strat (frankenstiened), Ibanez Rg series, Ibanez "Artwood" elec-acoustic, "Mexi" P-Bass.
Studio Stuff: assorted Rocktron processing gear, a few decent mics, a very ancient P2 computer buffed out as far as it can get....Steinberg and Sonic Foundry software, and other "toys"...and some great sounding pro quality EV montiors (found in a pawn shop for $75 dollars (stollen? probably - 4406's were not cheap when they were new, and these are at least 10 years old), with 175 watts a side to the pair...a walled off room in my garage with sound proofing and some basic traps affords a relatively decent little room...But, Flightpath sits directly under the #1 runway of Sea-Tac airport...lousy for recording vocals...hence the name :)
The demos up at this site are work-ups for my forthcoming project, where I will finally realize my dream of "fronting" and singing all the material.
They are stripped down versions of what I normaly do...play, sing, program, and engineer my songs to "near" pro-studio perfection...only technology, and it's subsequent cost, is what keeps me from diving into engineering full time (besides my love for the guitar).
They have the original click track, some percussion, an acoustic guitar, the roughed in electric guitar parts, and my vocals (somewhat imperfect but "ok" for now). I've left the rest open to interpretation...but I'm looking for players of a decidedly progressive rock backround: with the chops to match: all the while retaining my wierd "pop" style.
Previous projects (recently "Scarecrow Messiah") relied on a lead singer other than myself, and I found myself writing to fit their style. We also made the mistake of "chasing our audience", instead of being true to our vision. But as it was my "first" band as the driving force, I'll allow myself the luxury of a mistake or two (I made more than that :(
All material here is fully the product of myself (Robert W. Fowler-Flightpath Studios 2006) and may not be used for anything except for what it is intended: as a sampler of things to come, and for prospective bandmates to check out my songs, and download them for auditions....
The real stuff will be coming soon...thanks for checking me out.
R.W. Fowler (RobZ) / Flightpath Studios
